The brakes, when they work, have enough bite and are adequate. But it can feel worrisome when the bite starts fading. Whether you are driving slowly or fast, the brakes tend to feel juddery at times and can feel like the brakes don't have enough bite. We faced this issue while testing, and there are a lot of complaints on Circles from owners. If you have a Kylaq or plan to buy one, we suggest changing the brake pads.
The Kylaq is enjoyable around twisties, and the engine's performance is strong. The manual gearbox has short throws, and shifting gears is fun. But it's not a sporty car. There is some body roll, the steering isn't quick and the engine gets noisy at higher revs.
The automatic is our default recommendation, thanks to the engine update. It's no longer jerky in city traffic, but a smooth experience. The manual requires fewer gear changes, has short throws, and the gearshifts can be fun. But the heavy clutch is not so enjoyable.
All the made-in-India Skoda and VW cars we have tested recently have weak air conditioning systems. We didn't get the test the Kylaq in summer, but we think that Kylaq's AC won't be any different.
Yes, the Kylaq is the most affordable Skoda in India.
